ESR – Sustainability Policy for Cockliffe House – 2024.
As a small, family-owned business we take the responsibility for our environmental impact seriously and are committed to research and implement efficiencies and improvements where and when possible.
Independently operated since 2010 (Kelham House) and 2014 (Cockliffe House) we have made many improvements and additions to increase efficiency, reduce waste and maintain a focus on continued opportunities to enhance the ESR credentials of our heritage buildings. Some examples of the projects we have and will continue to carry out are below…
- Use LED lightbulbs and fittings across our whole estate, 90% LED lighting fittings achieved in 2023.
- Thermostatically controlled heating zoned by floor/area for optimal control & efficiency, remote monitoring and control system installed in January 2024 to increase efficiency.
- 5kwh solar PV system fitted at Cockliffe House in 2017, 14kwh solar PV system with battery storage fitted at Kelham House in January 2024.
- Reduced single-use plastic by 75% since 2021 with continued focus.
- Recycle raw food waste by composting at both properties, with 50% of fruit and vegetable waste donated to local animal shelters to be used as animal feed.
- Recycle coffee bean grounds into composting at both properties.
- Introduction of ¼ acre kitchen garden in 2020 to grow own herbs, fruit, and vegetables.
- Greenhouses were installed in 2020 and will be increased in 2024 to grow our flowers and plants for gardens.
- Using a water recovery system to reduce water consumption since 2017.
- Using local suppliers wherever possible to reduce the carbon footprint on the supply chain since 2009.
